10 Tips for Visiting Seaside

Updated: Jul 15, 2023

Seaside, Florida, is my favorite place in the whole entire world. The white sand beaches, the pastel cottages, red-bricked streets perfect for bike rides, and movie nights under the stars, what more could you want? I've been going to Seaside since I was a toddler and my family has made a million memories on the gulf. To have an unforgettable experience, here are 10 tips to remember when vacationing in Seaside.

1. Driving vs. Flying - I really like to have my car in Seaside, so I suck it up for the 13-hour drive, which isn't that hard if you have a group of friends/family tagging along. If you're going to fly, I highly recommend Panama City Beach International Airport (ECP) over Destin-Fort Walton Beach (VPS), because the traffic to VPS can be horrific.

2. Where to Stay - If you're looking for a place in Seaside, check out the Cottage Rental Agency or the Homeowner's Collection. If you're more flexible and are willing to look in surrounding neighborhoods, such as Seagrove Beach West (just a few blocks east of Seaside), check out VRBO or AirBnb! Tip: Seaside has several community pools, but if you enjoy having your own pool, look in Seagrove.

3. When to Go - Although summer is obviously the ideal time to go, October is also great! It's less crowded, rentals are cheaper, and the weather is just as nice, if not a little better.

4. Bikes - Bikes will be your go-to mode of transportation in Seaside (we prefer Butterfly Bike Rentals). There are a zillion trails to get lost on winding around Western Lake, but it's also so fun to just ride around Seaside and look at all of the colorful houses!

5. Beach - Seaside's nine iconic pavilions are spread along the coast, serving as gateways to the gulf's white sand beach. Our family normally uses the Tupelo Pavilion as our home base, since it's normally less crowded. If you're interested in renting chairs or paddleboards, we've had a great experience with Live Well 30A.

6. Food - Breakfast: cinnamon rolls at Modica Market! Lunch: Barefoot BBQ's brisket nachos. Dinner: Great Southern is a popular spot, but the line can be outrageous, so put your name on the list and come back after a shower. There's a lot of other tasty options, including Pickle's (great for kids), the Taco Bar, Shrimp Shack, Pizza Bar, and Bud & Alley's (a favorite for a sunset cocktail). For dessert, a scoop of gelato from Heavenly's Ice Cream really hits the spot, and Tiger Butter fudge at Dawson's is also a huge hit with my family.

7. Sundog Books - Sundog Books is Seaside's revered bookstore. My favorite spot to grab a beach read, Sundog has books for all ages across a wide variety of genres, from history to young adult, and also has great gifts, such as puzzles! The second story is home to Central Square Records, as well as some great views of Seaside's town square.

8. Community Events - From the Seaside Farmers Market that takes place every Tuesday & Saturday to the Friday movie nights to the Wednesday night concerts in the amphitheater to sandcastle contests, Seaside's event calendar is always packed to the gills! Holidays are also huge productions, so check out the event page so you don't miss a thing!

9. Shopping - We always make time for one shopping day when in town! From the Shops of Ruskin to Cabana, there's something for everyone. If you're looking for the unmistakeable Seaside shirt, visit The Seaside Style and Seaside Beach stores!

10. Other 30A Hotspots - From George's for a fancy meal in Alys Beach to the Pearl's Rooftop for incredible beach views in Rosemary Beach to Pandora's for some dancing in Grayton Beach, there's a ton of places to see & experience along 30A, so hop on your bike & explore!
