Nantucket is a picturesque island off the coast of Cape Cod, and I fully intend to return as soon as possible. Probably to live. Between the historic lighthouses, the beautiful architecture, and the gorgeous views, it was an unforgettable place. After our visit, Nantucket is a close second to my favorite spot in the world, Seaside. We only spent one day there, but it was definitely a highlight of our trip.
MORNING
Hop on the morning ferry from Hyannis Port, MA (90-minute drive from Boston). You can catch the fast ferry (1 hour) or the traditional ferry (2 hour 15 min). Tip: To save money & time, I recommend taking the traditional ferry there and the fast ferry back.
Grab a cup of Island Coffee and walk to downtown for a bit of shopping! My favorite spot was Murray's Toggery (where I got my ACK hat and the birthplace of Nantucket Reds), but there are tons of cute boutiques with anything you can imagine.
AFTERNOON
Head to Jetties beach (closest beach to town) to relax for a couple of hours. Pack a bag with a suit, towel and book, and you're golden. Tip: Hop on the WAVE to save yourself the 20-minute walk to Jetties (although it's a beautiful stroll)!
Hungry? Head back to town or meander on over to the Sandbar at Jetties Beach, which has some delicious cocktails!
Grab a cookie dough ice cream cone at the Nantucket institution, the Juice Bar (cash only). Be prepared to wait in line, but it's worth the wait.
If it's not beach weather, visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum. Although we didn't have time to check it out, I've had many friends recommend it. If anything, Gilmore Girl fans should at least see if Emily Gilmore is giving tours.
Another great place to spend the afternoon is at Cisco Brewers! A brewery, winery and distillery with food trucks and live music, what more could you want? Tip: Take advantage of the free shuttle that leaves from downtown every hour!
EVENING
You absolutely cannot leave the island without going on the 'Sconset Bluff Walk! We went in the late afternoon and it was magical. This public walking path takes you from the village of Siasconset through the backyards of some of the island’s most iconic homes. To find the path, turn right after 21 Front Street and make a quick left. Tip: You can take the WAVE out there or rent bikes, and if you have a few minutes to spare, peek in the Sconset Market.
Before hopping on the ferry back (sigh), grab food at Brotherhood of Thieves or the Nantucket Lobster Trap.
ADDITIONAL RELEVANT TIPS
It's a pretty small island, so you can walk most places, but if you need a ride, hop on the WAVE bus ($2/ride), rent bikes, or use Uber.
The best time to go is during May & October, but hear it's very festive during the Christmas Stroll.
My one regret is that we never rented bikes, because it was at the top of so many lists of ways to see the island! If you have time, be sure to go cruising.
