Top 10 Things to Do in New York City

Updated: Dec 29, 2018

If you only have a limited amount of time in the Big Apple, here are the top things to hit while you're in town!

1. 9/11 Museum - By far, my favorite museum in the city. It does an incredible job of walking visitors through everything that happened that fateful day in September. Budget a couple of hours, and buy your tickets ahead of time to avoid the line.

2. Central Park - From the Jacqueline Kennedy Reservoir to the Gapstow Bridge in front of the Plaza Hotel, I am obsessed with every part of Central Park! There are so many parts to explore, but I always enjoy stopping by the Boathouse for a drink on the patio.

3. Broadway Show - If you're a fan of musicals, seeing a Broadway show is a bucket list item for sure. From the classics like Aladdin and Chicago to the new favorites like Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, there are a ton of great options for all ages! For same-day tickets at up to 50% off, visit the TKTS booth in the middle of Times Square and in the Financial District.

4. High Line - Built on old railroad tracks elevated above the city, the High Line park is a popular spot for tourists and New York natives. Located in the West Village, it offers great views of the city and Lady Liberty. While you're over there, pop in to Chelsea Market for a bite to eat.

5. Top of the Standard - My favorite spot above the city, hands down. Located at the top of the Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District, the drinks are a bit pricey, but the atmosphere and live music makes it worth it. Make a reservation if you go on a weekend. And, go to the bathroom for the best view. Just trust me.

6. Museum Mile - Along 5th Avenue spans the museum mile, which features countless museums and fine arts institutions. The Met and Guggenheim museums are can't-miss if you're an art lover, but my favorite is the Museum of the City of New York. The Met rooftop is a hidden gem, but is only open April - October.

7. Grand Central Station - One of the most majestic buildings in Manhattan, you can thank Jacqueline Kennedy for stepping in and saving the gorgeous architecture from being demolished. If you're a history buff, I would highly recommend taking a self-guided tour or a docent-led tour. You can also shop and dine in the Terminal!

8. Rockefeller Center - Whether you're headed to New York at Christmas or not, Rockefeller Center is a must-see in the heart of Manhattan. Check out the Top of the Rock observation deck (much better than the Empire State Building), and visit the shops surrounding the center before grabbing a bite at MELT SHOP.

9. Bryant Park - Although Central Park is the iconic New York park, Bryant Park is my favorite! Right next to the New York Public Library, the park is privately owned and hosts the most fun events! In the summer they host movies on the lawn, and in the winter they have a skating rink. They also offer knitting classes and have ping pong tables.

10. South Street Seaport Harbor - On the southern tip of the island, the cobblestone streets of the Seaport District boasts museums, shopping and restaurants. From pop-up bars to Christmas decorations, there's always community events happening!
